If your room or your desk is in a mess, there’s a happy news for you – You are Officially declared “Creative”. That is what recent studies say, if you don’t believe me!
A University of Minnesota study published in the journal Psychological Science found that people with messy desks that were paper-strewn and the room that was generally cluttered were found to be more creative (and happy)!
Clutter in general, may look disorganized, but gives you a comfortable control over your space and adds to the liveliness of the place. It has all your necessary items at arms’ length and you have easy access to all your required stuff. This builds focus and concentration on the work at hand without the distraction of getting up every time to access some petty stuff.
Creative thinking, in its stripped-off form, promotes thinking beyond the lines of “conventional” reasoning. If you consider this, it would be very clear that messy rooms with stuffs misplaced from their “conventional” locations would let creativity thrive and build on it’s own.
It is also of consequence to note that a limited clutter in your room influences you in a positive and feel-good way. And also leads to happiness and contentment – here’s why:
You are in-charge of your room: You have comfortable clutter in your room and know where every item is within reasonable access. It is your room your way – thus giving you a sense of command over your “den”.
- Sparks the passionate “YOU” : You do not bother about being spic and span – there’s no constant nagging in your head about keeping things in order – so you have enough free time to pursue your passion – which in turns makes you happier.
- You are not afraid of being different: You deny the “conventional wisdom” – you are bold and make a statement – you love making your own decisions and live life your way. Ain’t that something to rejoice about?
