Ultimate Guide to Color Wheel Styling

The most fundamental to Fashion Industry is the Use of Inspiring Colours. Color combinations can invoke life into a seemingly dull collection and can completely turnaround a look from winter to spring, spring to summer and so on. Color theory can stretch beyond clothing as well. For instance, using color combination in hair, makeup, eye-shadows, neckgear and headgear also lends a touch of dash and accentuates the clothing on the model.

Here’s 5 ways to using the Color Wheel in Cloth Styling:

  1. Monochromatic: The most basic and the most difficult to pull off is the monochromatic color combination. It is essentially an outfit in a single colour entirely. If done right, the result is absolutely amazing. Another way to pull off this color scheme is to mix different elements of a specific color like hue, saturation, tint or shades or simple use texturing and fabric structure.
  2. Complementary: Complementary colors are directly across from each other on the color wheel. They are most contrasting colors and as such make the boldest statement. These are also simplest to make. Prepare an outfit in one of the primary colors and use the complementary colors in the accessories. Simple yet trendy.
  3. Analogous:  This is the combination of any three colors that are directly next to each other on the color wheel. Analogous combination is the most harmonious color combination and soothing to the eyes. Though, note that you must choose colors which have enough contrast in terms of share, hue, tone and tint.
  4. Split Complementary: A split complementary is found by taking a base color and then pairing it with colors directly next to it’s adjacent color. It has similar lasting impression as the Complementary colors, but has a generally more flattering and dimensional texture to it.
  5. Triadic:  Traidic are groups of 3 colors that are all equidistant from each other on the color wheel. Because of the color wheel placement, these combinations tend to be very vibrant and lively. Always choose one color as base color and the other 2 as supporting colors.
